This Market Profile chartbook brings TPO structure, value areas, Point of Control and volume profile levels together in one Sierra Chart workspace. Dark and light versions are available for immediate installation.
Market Profile (TPO) and volume profile describe the same session in two ways. The TPO chart counts time: each period, usually 30 minutes, prints a letter at every price it traded, so wide areas show where the market spent time. Volume profile counts the contracts traded at each price. Their POC and value area often differ, and reading both is how many futures traders tell accepted prices from rejected ones. The differences are covered in volume profile vs Market Profile.
A real-time data feed and enough intraday history for the sessions you want to study. No market depth is needed. Session times matter more than data here: a profile built on the full Globex session and one built on the day session (RTH) give different levels. Check Chart >> Chart Settings >> Session Times after installing; the setup is explained in Sierra Chart TPO profile chart setup and Sierra Chart volume by price setup.
Traders who build their plan around value: where the market accepts price, where the previous day's value area sits, and whether the open is inside or outside it. It works on any instrument in your feed and gives context for intraday trades as well as longer holds.
A TPO chart measures the time spent at each price, a volume profile measures the contracts traded there. A price can see a lot of time and little volume, or the reverse, which is why their POCs often differ.
Many index traders build TPO and value areas on the day session, 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET, while others profile the full Globex session. Both are valid; pick one and keep it the same on every chart so the levels match.
The price range of the first hour of the session, which is the first two 30-minute TPO periods. Traders watch whether price stays inside it or extends beyond it later in the day.
